Work closer to children’s school: A simpler weekday routine in Buda

Key takeaways

  • Several international and bilingual schools are within a ten-minute drive of our Buda locations, with Brit Magyar Iskola just a ten-minute walk from Csévi.

  • Schools further out, such as AISB and Lycée Français, are still on the same Buda route, making it easier to combine the school run with the workday.

  • Saving just 20 minutes on each school day adds up to around 60 hours over a 180-day school year.

  • For several Flexi members, having their child’s school or nursery nearby was one of the reasons they chose to work from our offices.

One of our tenants used to drop his child off on Szilfa utca and be at his laptop five minutes later. That's about half a kilometre. If you've just moved to Budapest, or you're running a business here with a school run in the morning, that half a kilometre is worth more to you than any downtown address. Here's what actually sits around our office space in Buda.

The daily loop

For working parents, the location of an office matters beyond the commute from home. School and nursery drop-offs are part of the daily routine too, and having everything close by can make weekdays much easier.

Hungary's decree on the 2026/2027 school year sets 180 teaching days. If your office adds twenty minutes to the loop each day, that's 60 hours a year, spent in twenty-minute portions small enough that you never notice them.

The other eleven weeks are a different problem entirely, and we've written about it separately here: summer childcare and flexible coworking.

AISB in Nagykovácsi and the Lycée Français in Máriaremete are a little further out, but the morning school run can still work well with a Buda-based office. Both schools are in the same direction, with our locations on the way back towards the city.

Local schools and nurseries just around the corner

There are plenty of local options nearby too. Within a ten-minute walk of our Csévi location, you’ll find a Franciscan nursery on Szilfa utca, a municipal crèche on Hűvösvölgyi út, a Waldorf nursery on Guyon Richárd utca and two private schools on Tárogató út.

A short drive opens up even more options, including state and church-run schools, a Waldorf school and several private nurseries offering English- or German-language education.

Tárogató út 2-4 is home to several schools in one place, including bilingual and alternative primary schools, an arts school, a private music school and a language school.

What we see across our own members

For several of our members, their child’s school or nursery played a role in choosing a Flexi location. One had a child attending AISB in Nagykovácsi, while two others chose our Csévi office with the same nearby Franciscan nursery as part of their daily routine.

We’re seeing the same thing with families moving to Budapest. Two prospective members relocating from abroad recently considered school location alongside where to live and work.

For many, the benefit is simply having home, school and work in the same part of Buda, making the everyday commute a little easier.

Where we stand

Working close to home doesn’t have to mean working from home. For parents in Buda, having a professional workspace nearby can make it easier to fit work around school and nursery drop-offs without adding a long commute to the day.

That doesn’t mean every working day needs to happen locally. Some days might involve meetings in the city centre, while others are better suited to focused work closer to home. Flexible office options make it possible to combine the two.

And that’s where having an office nearby can make a difference. Instead of choosing between the kitchen table and a commute across Budapest, there’s a third option: a fully equipped workspace, meeting rooms and reception, just a few minutes from home or school.

How do you know if this applies to you?

  • You do the morning drop-off, and you need somewhere to work straight afterwards.

  • You've just relocated to Budapest, and the school was decided before the workplace was.

  • You work from the kitchen table because commuting downtown between two calls isn't worth it.

  • You only need a client-ready room one or two days a week; the rest could be any quiet desk.

  • Your afternoons have activities, and you spend the ninety minutes in between sitting in the car.

A workspace that fits your week

If you only need to be in the city centre a few days a week, the rest of your working week could happen much closer to home and to school or nursery.

At Flexi, you don’t need to commit to a full-time office to make that work. Our flexible coworking options start from five days a month at 105 EUR (net), giving you a professional place to work when you need it, without adding another long commute to your day.

When we started Flexi Offices in 2021, we chose residential Buda rather than a traditional office district. Today, both of our District II locations reflect the kind of working environment we were looking for ourselves: close to where everyday life actually happens.

Come and see for yourself

You're welcome at either location: Csévi Flexi Offices (Csévi utca 7/b) and Regina Villa (Bölöni György utca 22) for a free tour and a test day. Bring your laptop, work here for a day, and see on your own morning how much shorter the loop gets.
